Katja Heitmann is a young choreographer who has recently made a name for herself with singular installations and performances. She involves the public in her work in a humorous, surprising and sometimes awkward way. Katja creates her installations combining elements from dance, circus, theatre and art, and constantly searches for the most suitable form to depict the themes she addresses. She is fascinated by the way people struggle to get to grips with their existence. Who is monitoring who? Who motivates who? The leitmotif in her work is the definition and perception of reality. Katja graduated from the Fontys Dansacademie as choreographer in 2012. Her performance Eggs are good for your hair, with tightrope walker Melanie Hagedorn, was staged at the Opera Estate Festival in Italy among other venues. For the Nederlandse Dansdagen, she created the well-received Me, my Selfie and I. Currently Katja is working on the project iTernal Playground that among other locations, will be further developed at the Prague Quadrennial and the Boulevard Theaterfestival.
